How to avoid getting ghosted as a calligrapher

“How do I stop getting ghosted by potential clients?” I’ve been getting this question from my calligraphy business students, and I feel your pain! There’s nothing quite as frustrating as riding the emotional roller coaster of getting an exciting new inquiry, only to hear crickets after responding.

So, what should you do if it happens to you?

Well, the very first thing to do is to reframe your mindset around being ghosted. Remember that:

It happens to everyone: It's easy to get discouraged, but truly, it happens to all of us and isn’t a reason to give up. Ultimately, we have no control over what someone else does (or doesn't) do. If you get ghosted, continue reframing your mindset using the next two points.

It's not personal: People planning weddings and events tend to be overwhelmed. Your email is one of dozens that they're exchanging with vendors, friends, and family to plan all the details. It's our job to stay top of mind by following up and giving clients multiple opportunities to respond.

It's not really a bad thing: Your ideal clients are not going to be the ones who ghost you, period. If your services are presented clearly and you’re following the tips in the guide mentioned below, and you still don't get a response, that's likely an indicator that this client wasn’t a good fit for your business, and your time and energy are better spent elsewhere.
